Who we are
BlackBook ("BlackBook", "we", "us") is an app for students, operated by the independent developer listed as the seller on BlackBook's App Store page. You can reach us through our support page.
What we collect

Signing in is optional: without an account you can record and take notes on your iPad, and nothing is sent to our servers. We don't collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and BlackBook contains no advertising or third-party analytics.
AI features
AI features run only after you allow AI processing, which BlackBook asks for before the first request. You can turn it off or on at any time in Profile → AI processing; recording and notes keep working without it. When you transcribe a recording, ask a question, or use Do, the app sends what that request needs to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI and returns the result. Depending on the feature this can include lecture audio, your question, relevant excerpts of your transcripts, notes, and files, and photos you attach. Our server does not keep this content after the request completes; it records only the usage count. We ask OpenAI not to store responses, and under OpenAI's API terms, data sent through the API is not used to train its models. OpenAI may keep request data for up to 30 days to detect abuse, as described in its policies. When you turn on outside research, the AI may search the web, which sends search queries (not your files) to a search provider through OpenAI.
Recording other people
Lecture recordings capture the voices of your instructor and classmates. Recordings stay on your iPad unless you transcribe them. You are responsible for getting any permission your school or local law requires before recording.
Service providers
- Supabase: account, profile, usage, and support data, hosted in Singapore.
- OpenAI: transcription and AI answers, processed in the United States.
- Apple and Google: sign-in; Apple: subscriptions.
- Cloudflare: hosting for this website.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. Because they operate in other countries, your information may be transferred outside Thailand and your own country.
How long we keep it
Account, profile, and usage records are kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete your account. Support messages are kept for up to 24 months. Content on your iPad stays until you delete it or remove the app.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app: Profile → Delete account. This removes your account, profile photo, and usage history from our servers, revokes Sign in with Apple access, and clears BlackBook's content from that iPad.
- Turn off AI processing in Profile to stop sending any content for AI processing.
- Delete content at any time: individual items, a whole course, or all content from Profile → Delete all content.
- Change your name or photo from your profile.
- Depending on where you live, including under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. Contact us through the support page to use them.
Security
Connections are encrypted. Sign-in tokens are kept in the iPad's Keychain. Only you can read your profile, photo, and usage records; the AI service key is held on our server and never ships in the app.
Children
BlackBook is intended for students aged 13 and older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use BlackBook with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app.
